Cheap 5G Phones
Huawei is reportedly preparing to present a 5G cellphone with an offering price of around CNY1028 or USD150, at the end of 2020 or early 2021.
Currently, the most affordable 5G smartphones are around CNY2,000 or USD290 (Rp3.9 million), but the average price for a device with the fastest network support is around CNY3,000 or USD430 (Rp.5.8 million) or higher.
So that mobile phones marketed at a price range of CNY1,000 will allow more consumers to enjoy the speeds offered by the newest network in the world today.
Citing the GSM Arena, the MediaTek 1000L and Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipsets with the integration of the optional 5G model are claimed to allow 5G connectivity to be enjoyed on a number of mid-range devices.
Until now, 5G connectivity is still a feature exclusively available on the flagship devices of a number of smartphone manufacturers including Huawei. Meanwhile, Huawei and Samsung will be the two parties that promote the adoption of 5G in 2020, until Apple is involved in the same realm.
In 2019, Samsung reportedly shipped 6.7 million devices with support for 5G network connectivity, while Huawei reportedly shipped a slightly higher number of similar devices, namely 6.9 million.
Previously, Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei was optimistic that the negative campaign launched by the United States (US) would not significantly affect the technology company’s business. Washington has accused Huawei equipment of posing a national security risk.
Last year, Huawei was put on a US trade blacklist. The blacklist causes Huawei to have to release their flagship smartphone without the licensed Google Android software.
Meanwhile, Huawei is reportedly increasingly establishing itself to adapt, find alternative solutions and approaches to this. TomTom announced that it has signed a cooperation agreement with Huawei for an undisclosed period.
Huawei is expected to take advantage of TomTom’s growing services business and immerse it in its work services, so that it can provide independent applications and platforms for its company map data.
LG Roll Screen Smartphone
LG is reportedly preparing a smartphone with a roll-up screen. According to reports, the folding smartphone will hit the market next year.
The screen for the smartphone will be provided by BOE, not LG Display. Prototype production has been carried out at the LG factory in Pyeongtaek, South Korea.
Approximately 1,000 to 2,000 prototypes have been produced. Usually it takes three to four rounds of the prototype before it reaches the final production stage.
Samsung Will Release Galaxy Fold Lite
The Galaxy Fold Lite is said to be priced at around USD 1,100.
According to reports, the Lite version will have the same screen ratio as the current Galaxy Fold. However, it will have a single punch-hole for the front camera.
In addition, the smartphone is also reported to be equipped with a thinner bezel. So far there is no information regarding other specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Fold Lite.
Galaxy Note 20 and Fold 2 coming
Furthermore, the Covid-19 pandemic affected the launch of a number of new smartphones. However, Samsung ensures that its newest premium devices, namely the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Fold 2 series, will still be released this year.
Samsung confirmed that the launch of the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Fold 2 series will be held in the second half of this year. This was disclosed by the company in its Q1 2020 financial report, but Samsung did not mention the names of the two smartphones clearly.
