The well-known Taiwanese company Asus released a product that shook the world of notebooks and laptops. Asus categorizes this new laptop in the Vivobook series. This series is known as a series of laptops that are light weighted and thin but have a fairly strong performance with the target of students, students, and office workers. Despite the slim and sleek design of this laptop, its performance is quite satisfying so it can be used to play some well-known light and heavy games.

Asus VivoBook A412FL, a new laptop released in 2019 exclusively for Indonesia. This laptop has a serial number X412FL in the world-class but has the same specifications. Because this laptop is categorized in the VivoBook class, the slim and thin design is one of the features of this laptop. With a weight of approximately 1.4 kg making this laptop very easy to carry in travels without a hustle.

The NanoEdge display technology makes the screen of this laptop has a very thin bezel. The chassis ratio with this laptop screen has an 87% screen-to-body ratio. This ratio has a very large number making it possible to fit a 14-inch screen into a laptop that is only 13-inch chassis. The screen itself is in full HD resolution 1920 x 1080 pixels. The screen features Asus Splendid, Asus EyeCare, and a 178-degree wide view. The screen is an IPS display with a LED-backlit Anti-Glare 60 hertz panel with 45 percent NTSC. 

Even though the screen has thin edges which eliminate a lot of space, a 0.9 MegaPixel webcam camera that can take pictures with a resolution of 1280×720 is included that remains on the top of the screen by popping a little tongue above the screen making it easy to open the laptop.

Using this laptop to write assignments or stories with the keyboard is very enjoyable. good travel distance between letters and good arrangement resulted in an interesting experience using this laptop to write theses, make resumes, and many others. The keyboard on this laptop is also equipped with a backlight feature so that typing at night can overcome darkness because the letters will light up in the dark with this feature included. The thing to note is that the power button is located parallel to the other letters, so you must be careful if you want to press delete or to turn off the laptop.

The trackpad on this laptop pretty well builds. The trackpad is as wide as the spacebar and placed perfectly underneath it. It has two modes that are touch mode to activate right clicks and a push mode that is to click the trackpad anywhere to serve as a left mouse click with a sensation of a mouse click when the trackpad is clicked. The trackpad also includes a fingerprint sensor as a feature of biometric security that is supported by Windows 10. The sensor is located in the upper right corner of the trackpad.

As it is said, this laptop packs a decent power to run some heavy workshop applications and games. Not to be said that running a daily task application like email, document editors, and web surfing are such an easy thing to do. This laptop is powered by an 8th Intel Core i5-8265U kabylake refreshed. The processor is clocked with a base speed of 1.8 GHz and could be powered up to 3.8 GHz. the refreshed 8th generation of Intel i5 processors have 4 cores with hyper-threading support, so it has the same meaning of having 8 logical processors. The letter “U” written in the processor series determines that the processor is designed to fulfill portability and ultra-saving power for the laptop, although the clock speed that affects the speed of processing is decreased if compared than the normal version (the desktop version of the processor). 

Exclusive for running games, the dedicated graphics that is powered by Nvidia is a no problem. The Nvidia MX250 that is included can play various titles of games in a very playable framerate and good quality. The dedicated MX250 has a 2 Gigabytes of Virtual Raw Access Memory (VRAM) in the full power version that is 15 Watts Thermal Design Power (TDP). Games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Monster Hunter: World, Far Cry 5 can run above 35 Fps in 720p resolution. Those triple-A games were titled as high graphics consuming games, but it can be easily handled by the dedicated graphics. Applications and lightweight games can run easily at full HD resolution without excessing power.

This laptop is packed with a lighting speed storage. It has a 512 gigabytes NVME storage that is served in M.2 connection, and also equipped with 16 gigabytes of Intel Optane that speeds up booting and loading system or application tasks. The speed of booting into the system only takes 2.1 seconds of BIOS time. The speed can be achieved because the SSD is manufactured directly from Intel technologies. The Raw Access Memory (RAM) has 8 gigabytes in size with the type of DDR4 and installed in a dual channel to provide more speed in accessing random data transfers between the processor and the storage. An empty SATA slot is provided if the user has a will to add more space if needed.

Ports in the laptop are enough for a notebook this small. The laptop has two USB ports, with the 3.0 and 2.0 type-A for each one of them. A 3.1 USB type-C for future and faster connections is also provided. For external display, a full-size HDMI port is given, but a VGA port is not. In the left side, we can find the USB ports, HDMI port, a 3.5mm combo jack, and a 3.2 ampere capable of charging port. In the right side, we can find 1 USB type-A port, a micro SD slot, and a Kensington lock.

Charging the laptop is a very fast experience, it only takes one hour to charge this beast up to full. It lasts around 10 hours of light usage. The 2 cells 37 Watt-hour battery provide long term power without decreasing portability.
