Together with upgraded MacBook Pro 13 inch and 15 inch laptop specifications, Apple also introduced a new product of external graphics processing (eGPU) designed in collaboration with Blackmagic.

Blackmagic eGPU is claimed to provide a “desktop class” performance for Apple laptops. eGPU is also quite plugged into the laptop via Thunderbolt port 3 (USB type-C) to provide additional graphics performance.

The magnitude of the graphics performance enhancement given by Blackmagic eGPU, according to Apple, reaches 2.8 times for 15-inch MacBook Pro that has discrete GPU Radeon Pro, and 8x for 13-inch MacBook Pro which is only armed with integrated Intel Iris GPU.

“This product is designed for professional video editors, Hollywood colorist, and visual effects artists who want to stay mobile but require a desktop GPU equivalent performance for their MacBook Pro,” said Blackmagic.

The large number of USB ports provided make Blackmagic eGPU able to function as a hub for various devices, such as mouse, keyboard, monitor, TV, and storage media.

Blackmagic eGPU is available exclusively through Apple stores. Banderol price is set at 699 US dollars
